Drug overview
Viagra is used to treat erectile dysfunction in men. Viagra stimulates the natural ability of a man’s body to achieve and maintain a healthy erection during sexual stimulation. Please, note that Viagra will not protect you from any sexually transmitted diseases including HIV.
How to use Viagra
Viagra is an orally administered medication. Usually patients take it about an hour before the sexual act in order to obtain maximum possible result. However, Viagra can be taken within the time period between 4 hours to 30 minutes before the sexual act. Remember, NEVER take more than one Viagra pill a day. NEVER break the dosage or schedule provided by your doctor.
Precautions
Before starting to take Viagra, inform your doctor of any heart problems that you’ve had recently (heart attack, stroke, tachycardia, etc). You also have to inform your healthcare provider of coronary artery disease; angina; high or low blood pressure; liver problems; kidney problems; blood problems, including sickle cell anemia or leukemia; bleeding disorders; stomach ulcer; retinitis pigmentosa (an inherited condition of the eye); any physical deformity of the penis such as Peyronie's disease; any condition that could make your erections abnormally prolonged and painful, such as a tumor of the bone marrow, sickle cell anemia, or leukemia if you have any. State whether you are already using or have used some other ED med apart from Viagra – and the effect that it had on you. In case you have some of the illnesses stated above, you may be forbidden to take Viagra or subject to either an optimal dose adjustment or a special medical monitoring throughout the treatment. Viagra is not intended for use by women – but at the same time it is included into the FDA pregnancy category B, which means that it doesn’t cause any harmful effects to an unborn baby. NOTE: Elderly people are particularly susceptible to the side effects of Viagra, so, please, consult your physician before starting to take Viagra if you’re already over 65 years old.
Missed Dose
Basically, Viagra is used right before the beginning of a sexual act, so you are not likely to miss a dose.
Possible Side Effects
Similar to all prescription medicines, Viagra can cause certain side effects. There hasn’t been noticed any severe side effects - those that appear are usually mild to moderate and don’t last longer than several hours. In most cases, side effects are caused by unauthorized overdosing. The list of most common side effects of Viagra comprises: headaches, flushing of the face due to increased blood flow, upset stomach. Some people also experience temporary problems with eyesight (trouble telling blue color from green), increased sensitivity to light, blurred vision. In very rare cases a Viagra consumer may experience an abnormally prolonged (lasting for several hours) and painful erection. If this happens to you, seek for immediate medical attention in order to avoid permanent damage to your penis. Heart attack, stroke, severe tachycardia and death have been reported in a few cases – however, most of these men had had heart problems before starting to take Viagra. All attempts to determine whether these events were directly related to the impact of Viagra failed.
Storage
Keep Viagra in its original container in a dry place at an average temperature of 25°C (77°F); excursions permitted to 15-30°C (59-86°F). Keep Viagra out of the reach of children.
Overdose
If you suspect an overdose, seek emergency medical attention. Symptoms of a Viagra overdose have not been clearly defined yet, but are likely to include the following: chest pain, severe dizziness, tachycardia, and swelling of the ankles or legs.
Additional Information
Never take Viagra if you take any medicines containing nitrates – either regularly or as needed. Usage of nitric medicines along with Viagra may lead to a rapid drop of blood pressure in your body. The symptoms of such condition include: dizziness, fainting, even heart attacks or strokes. Note: nitric ingredients may be found in different prescription meds used to treat angina. Viagra is intended for use only by men suffering from ED. It should not be used by women or children. Never share your Viagra pills with anyone for whom it wasn’t prescribed. Viagra can be used only under a strict medical supervision.
